Active 45+ Joint & Back Pain Relief Program

Stay Active With Less Pain

The Active 45+ Joint & Back Pain Relief Program is for adults who still want to walk the lake, hike the hills, practice yoga, play sports and move independently, but are held back by joint pain, back pain or stiffness. Sessions in this program focuses on knee, hip, shoulder, and low back pain that shows up with everyday activities or exercise.

Using my orthopedic acupuncture approach, we work to reduce pain and stiffness,  improve mobility, and support better recovery so you can keep doing what you love with more comfort and confidence.

Treatment plans are individualized, but most people start with weekly sessions to create momentum, then we reassess and adjust as your symptoms change.

If you’re 45+ and tired of being told to ‘just rest’ or ‘accept getting older,’ and you’re looking for a body‑respecting way to support your joints and spine alongside any care you receive from your primary care or orthopedic providers, this program is for you.

How this program is different from a one‑off orthopedic visit

Designed for active adults 45 +. We focus on the realities of staying active in this stage of life, not just short‑term symptom relief.

Course of care, not only random drop‑ins. Based on your needs, we decide on an initial series of sessions, reassess along the way, and adjust based on your goals and progress.

Built on my orthopedic acupuncture work. This program uses the same precise techniques I use for orthopedic pain relief, applied through the lens of long‑term mobility, balance, and recovery.

The Active 45+ program focuses on common pain patterns that often show up in midlife and beyond, including:

  • Knee pain

  • Hip pain

  • Low back pain

  • Shoulder pain

  • Neck pain and tension

  • Arthritis-related discomfort

  • Pain that lingers after an injury

  • Support before surgery or during recovery after orthopedic procedures

This program is especially useful for people who:

  • Want a more intentional treatment plan rather than occasional spot treatment,

  • Wre trying to stay active while managing recurring pain,

  • Wre in a period of waiting before an orthopedic procedure,

  • Have been told they need time, conditioning, weight loss, or further evaluation before surgery,

  • Or want supportive care during recovery after surgery as part of a broader medical plan.

If you are under medical care with an orthopedist, your primary care physician or a physical therapist, this work is meant to be an adjunctive support alongside that plan, especially when the timeline to surgery or full rehabilitation stretches over weeks or months.

How I work

Care is individualized, but it is built around the idea that meaningful orthopedic improvement often takes a series of treatments, not a single appointment. We begin with a clear look at what is hurting, what activities matter most to you, what has already been tried, and where you are in the larger arc of recovery.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include:

  • Acupuncture

  • Electrical stimulation acupuncture

  • Trigger point needling

  • Dry needling

  • Prolo Acupuncture

  • Cupping

  • Gua sha

These tools are chosen based on your presentation, comfort level, and goals. The aim is to reduce pain, improve tissue function, support circulation and recovery, and help you move with more ease.

Who this program is for

This program may be a good fit if you:

are 45+ and generally active,

want help with knee, hip, shoulder, or low back pain,

are recovering from overuse, strain, injury, or surgery,

want support staying mobile while following a larger medical plan,

or want an acupuncture-based approach that respects both performance and longevity.

What to expect

Most people begin with regular visits so we can create momentum and see how your body responds. From there, we adjust based on symptoms, function, and your goals. Some patients need short-term concentrated care; others benefit from ongoing support during longer recovery periods or while navigating orthopedic timelines.

The goal is not just to “treat pain.” The goal is to help you stay engaged in your life with more stability, less flare-up, and a clearer sense of how to care for your body through this stage.

Why work with Dr. Howe for joint and back pain?

I completed advanced training in orthopedic acupuncture for pain relief as part of my doctoral program and have treated hundreds of patients with joint and spine pain, including many recovering from orthopedic surgery. As a lifelong mover myself—through dance, Pilates, and martial arts—I understand how an active middle‑aged body feels, how it adapts over time, and what kind of support actually helps you keep going.
